Develop Your Devoted Writing Habit
to love your writing again
Does this sound like you?
You have an unfinished manuscript (or three).
You’ve always been a writer. It’s part of your soul. Yet, you’re a writer who doesn’t write, and you’re tired of carrying the mental load of those “someday” projects.
You used to write every day.
You’re happiest when you’re writing (or creating your art). It’s when you feel most connected to your deepest self. Yet, life has gotten in the way, and you can’t seem to make it back to your work.
You’re looking for your writing tribe.
You want the connection, accountability, and support a community brings. It’s a safe space to explore your creativity. Yet, you haven’t found the right fit and feel discouraged.
No Matter Where You Are Now, You’re Ready for Something New
You’re Saying to Yourself:
“THERE HAS TO BE A WAY FORWARD.”
What if the way forward is DEVOTION?
Devotion: Love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for your creative work.
Faithfulness, fidelity, constancy, commitment.
You could break through your blocks and finally finish the novel that’s been simmering in your head (and on your hard drive) for years.
You could find your way back to your long-lost imagination and sense of joyfulness around writing.
You could write for yourself and open the door to insight, growth, and healing.
You could shift from dread and avoidance to love and devotion in one month.
The way forward is to become a Devoted Writer.
"I am so grateful I took you up on your invitation to establish a writing routine. I've rediscovered the writer in me. I have developed a daily writing practice that I look forward to every day. My writings have centered and inspired me.
The organizing process has been a godsend since I am all over the place as a divergent thinker. I have a lot of material that breathed life into new and old ideas. I have several projects in the pipeline and a desire to improve my writing chops. It's all fitting together. I'm very grateful for the Salon and all the writers I shared a summer with. Thank you all!" Marlene
Why The Devoted Writer?
Students say yes to The Devoted Writer because:
“I feel a strong desire to get back to my writing.”
“I want to establish a practice that feeds my mind and spirit.”
“I need help transitioning into the mindset of an author.”
“I’m ready to write to discover who I am and creatively explore.”
“I adore writing with a community.”
“I want to write for myself—for reflection, and personal insight.”
“I simply want to get back into the groove of daily writing.”
They all have a common goal…to create consistently with joy and ease.
"Cynthia, your generous and brilliant coaching through your delightful prompts always made my day. The Devoted Writer is a gentle way to hone writing skills and gain insights into a writer's life." Elsie Wood
The Devoted Writer
October 1 - 31, 2020
A live four month online course to reconnect with your writing daily and design a lasting writing practice
Who Is This For?
Who have had setbacks and life changes that took them away from their writing and want to return to their creative practice.
Who need to write for their blog or newsletter and need fresh ways to get the words out.
Who have been burned out by content creation and want to reconnect with their why.
If you want to dive into your creative life like never before and develop a sustainable writing practice that brings you joy and fulfillment, The Devoted Writer is right for you.
“I used to truly enjoy writing in all kinds of capacities. I was in a slump and wasn’t feeling the joy I used to associate with writing. The prompts motivated me. The “free” writing literally gave me permission to let go and open up. Writing every day is refueling my enthusiasm for writing again.
These 15 minutes of writing is like a treasure hunt. I just never know what is going to come out through my fingers. Ideas are starting to flow, and my muse is joyfully visiting again. I feel more committed than ever to my writing projects. My MOJO has come back.” Sharron
The Devoted Writer Works Because
THE PROCESS IS SIMPLE AND PROFOUND
The Devoted Writer process helps writers of any level or genre get their words out. I’ve found that the thing that gets us to the page consistently isn’t an app, hack, or trick. It’s not scheduling it or having accountability.
It’s the thing that springs from deep inside, the force that helps us write, even when we don’t feel like it: Devotion. Over 31 days, you’ll connect with your devotion for writing and nurture it, until it forms a healthy habit.
THE COURSE IS LED BY A COACH WHO IS ALSO AN AUTHOR
Inside The Devoted Writer, you’ll receive prompts from me, Cynthia Morris, a certified coach, published author, and artist who has helped thousands of people free their inner writer.
When I say, “I get you,” I mean it. I understand writers, artists, and other creatives and what blocks us and motivates us. As a coach, I’m able to guide you in a way that gets results, while honoring your creative soul.
OUR COMMUNITY IS A CRITICISM-FREE ZONE
We don’t critique or provide feedback on your writing in The Devoted Writer. (We leave that for writing workshops focused on writing craft.)
Instead, we create a safe space we all need to be vulnerable and dare to write our stories. You’ll find a sense of belonging with your writer’s tribe and feel energized by the collective creation.
Many creatives return to The Devoted Writer for multiple rounds just to be part of this community.
Lessons are spread out so overwhelm is never an issue. Download the syllabus here.
"I will add my thanks to the chorus. I'm so pleased with how much I've gotten out of The Devoted Writer, in so many ways. It has helped me enormously to get back to a daily writing practice, and I'm very grateful. The writing I've done, the personal epiphanies, words that have gone directly into my newsletters, and so much more.
The Devoted Writer has been a great group. I'm so grateful for the support and community. And for Cynthia's gentle and firm guidance! This has been such a source of comfort and creativity for me." Charlotte Rains Dixon
How it works
While the structure of the The Devoted Writer is simple,
the support and impact are game-changers.
Here’s what you get:
31 days of daily visual and written prompts to keep you juiced up, inspired, and on track, including my signature Writual Blessings to feed your writing devotion.
Students ADORE these prompts and return to them again and again because they’re simple, provocative, and malleable to your writing needs — no matter what you’re writing.
Coaching + Weekly Q & A
Hit a block, or simply have a question? Students receive coaching on Mondays in Q&A format in the community classroom from Cynthia Morris, a certified coach and published author.
You’ll receive step-by-step instructions to develop a sustainable writing practice that you can tailor to your needs and style.
This isn’t a canned course, where you're on your own. The Devoted Writer is a live experience, giving you the accountability you need to write every day.
It’s AMAZING how much social accountability helps writers show up and rediscover their joy for writing.
Thoughtfully Curated Lessons
I've been helping writers for decades. I've carefully curated a handful of lessons that make a difference.
At the end of our program, you will receive all the lessons in one easy-to-use manual. You can return to these again and again to deepen your writing practice.
Private Online Classroom
The private online classroom is available 24/7. This is your space to connect with other writers (or not, depending on your needs). It is NOT a private Facebook group with clutter, ads, and distractions. It’s a safe, focused place to get your writing groove on.
Plus, Prizes for Daily Writers
Students who complete every day of prompts are entered into a drawing for a month of coaching with Cynthia. (Two 30-minute private coaching sessions by December 1, 2020.)
Those who complete each day’s writing will also receive a copy of Cynthia’s ebook Cross the Finish Line! Five Steps to Overcome the Hurdles to Completion.
You get all of this and so much more…this is a transformative experience with benefits that extend far beyond writing.
“I don't know if you were prescient or pulled the right Tarot cards when you dreamed up and organized the four-month Devoted Writer, but it came at the perfect time for me to hunker down and write practically every day. It provided a comforting constant during these tumultuous times.
Thank you so much for your dedication and for being in the trenches with us! I have just about filled my 200-page spiral notebook, and I'm pretty amazed at all those pages!” Molly Nunnelly
For this kind of accountability, support, and results, you’d expect to pay a lot, right?
But no. All of this – a month of writing in community, guided by a veteran writer’s coach isn't something you will find elsewhere.
Your investment in a month of writing is only $157.
"One thing's for sure, there's been no shortage of revelatory moments in this Devoted Writer course! And those are priceless. You, your lessons, and the writers of this session have given me a splendid four months. Thank you for generating those insightful discussions.
The best of what I learned: befriend my inner critic; know my values. It has made this journey ever so productive.
I wanted to rework the first draft of my novel, and I am almost there. 🙂 I wouldn't have reached this milestone in this timeframe without the daily push-pull of prompts, inspiration, and challenge (and perspiration!).
Meanwhile, I will see you in all the familiar places - in the daily freewrites and my friendlier inner critic, and all along my writer's journey." Dominique Anfossi
Meet your writing coach
I’m Cynthia Morris and I LOVE
helping people get unstuck creatively.
I’ve been teaching versions this course online since 2007 and in person since 1999.
A writer since 1994, I have put my pen to many genres: short story, essay, roundup articles for newspapers, non-fiction books, how-to articles and blogs, course curricula, and even a historical novel.
One of my clients called me the Swiss Army Knife of writer’s coaches because of the range of experience I bring.
I’m a certified coach, working with clients and students as a coach/teacher since 1999. Lots of people offer writing workshops, but very few have over 20 years experience facilitating the writing process for students and clients.
What does this mean for you?
I know what works, and I bring my heart, kindness, compassion and rigor to my students and clients.
"Thanks to what I learned from Devoted Writer, I have continued to pursue my writing goal, albeit sporadically, as I navigate life's changes. I'm on a roll. Thank you, Cynthia. You are so gifted and generous to share your wisdom with others." Skot Jonz
The rules of our space are simple:
Everyone is welcome.
No writing challenge is too big.
We respect everyone who shows up to write every day.
Let yourself enjoy the process, even when it doesn't look the way you want.
Here’s what I know about developing your writing practice:
When we find the deep source of connection and commitment, it’s easy to devote our time and efforts to our goals.
"When I signed up for the Devoted Writer, I thought it was all about lighting a fire beneath my posterior and finding a way to show up for these projects that have been haunting me. It has been that and much more. Truly, I feel it has been a very rich and nourishing offering, and I've been tremendously grateful to be in community in the midst of so much chaos and uncertainty.
Cynthia, I'm sure everyone who meets your warm, charismatic, caring self wants to be adopted as your best friend. 😉 Thank you for being so supportive and motivating and encouraging for all of us and creating a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment. So, deep bows to you, Cynthia, and to the community. Many, many thank yous." Kali B
For this kind of accountability, support, and results, you’d expect to pay hundreds of dollars, right? If you purchased the coaching alone, it would cost hundreds.
But no. All of this – a summer of writing in community, guided by a veteran writer’s coach isn't something you will find elsewhere.
Your investment in a month of writing is only $157.
No More Feeling Stuck
Your Ideas Will Flow and You’ll
Have the Confidence to Follow Through,
Just Like These Devoted Writers...
The Devoted Writer is NOT
- Instruction in the craft of writing, although I will respond to questions about writing in our classroom
- Journaling or morning pages
- Feedback, critique, or “workshopping” for your writing
- “How to write a book in 14 days”
- A death march to the finish line
"What an awesome summer of writing. So grateful I signed up for this extended Devoted Writer session. It’s unlocked a different part of me that I love tapping for wisdom, perspective, and insight. It’s been so therapeutic writing regularly during such a volatile time. I look forward to continuing with my writing.
I used this class primarily to work on my books, but on other days I gave myself leeway to use my writing time for a journal entry, a letter to a friend, a blog post, or copy for my website. I’m grateful for this space and being able to put time and dedication towards my writing. Thank you, C!" Kajal Dhabalia
The Devoted Writer Is Different
I designed The Devoted Writer for those who are ready to approach writing in a different way. A way of love, and dedication, of commitment and satisfaction.
You will love feeling devoted to your writing projects.
You will love being able to easily and consistently make time to work on your projects.
You will love feeling excited to do your writing.
You will love the freedom of never being blocked again.
Finally, you will no longer feel alone. Our writing community is fun and supportive and you will write daily, the way you want.
The goal of The Devoted Writer is to help you establish a meaningful connection to your writing goals and discover a way to write that works for you.
"Cynthia, I'm full of appreciation for how you create and watch over this space. I never know what I'll get from the Devoted Writer, but I'm always certain it will be good. This time more than ever. Thank you so much. It's made a huge difference for me, especially against the backdrop of the times we're living in. Until next time, farewell!" Patty Bechtold
What’s this worth? It’s impossible to attach a dollar sign to the kind of personal power we feel when our writing flows.
Devoted Writer students report a joy and freedom they’ve never accessed. The lid is blown off the writing treasure chest, and students are beyond thrilled to find their voice and writing stride.
