There’s something about Paris. It evokes our deepest, wildest creative self to come to the surface. We are inspired by the beauty everywhere in the food, architecture, fashion and street art.

And, Paris helps us tap into our deep desires. Who are we really, under our roles? How can we live with our creativity in the lead? Paris somehow lures out our most vulnerable and tender selves. We’re moved by the city as we move through it.

I’ve been leading writing workshops in Paris since 2005. My Paris historical novel and many of my writing projects have been inspired by my time there. Now, I bring my writer and writer’s coach out to lead an inimitable and life-changing writing workshop.

"I appreciated the balance between "classroom time" and free time. It felt like a good balance. I also appreciated the thoughtfulness that went into every class, including things like the writer's kit, the surprise treats, etc." - Stephanie Vessely

Your inner critic doesn't want you to have this kind of fun and transformation:

“My writing isn't as important as other things I do.”

“I have writing ideas but am afraid to commit.”

“Do I really need to go to Paris to do this?”

“What will others think of me and my writing?”

We’ve all had these thoughts...it’s normal.

Let's have a blast in Paris with our writers in the lead.

Meet Your Writer in Paris

is designed for writers like you...

"I absolutely recommend your Paris writing workshop. You are fun and created a very safe container for me to go deep. You are a writing blacksmith forging formidable fabulists, essayists, novelists, and quill pushers in six days." - Liebe Wetzel

You'll love this writing workshop in Paris.

Travel puts us out of our comfort zone. When we shed our normal routine, we step into the unknown. We access our courage to leave home and go where we can be our truest selves.

People have gathered for centuries in Paris. It’s a special place where we feel freedom to be ourselves, to create and write with soul and to touch into what’s really true for us.

Paris is a magical city where the history, creative vibe and sensuality conspire to bring out our most creative selves. The flavors, colors and textures of the city’s historic past and vibrant present help us shed our everyday concerns and access our deep creativity.

Go beyond ordinary tourism with a writing workshop in Paris that will change how you write and travel forever.

Meet your writing coach and bon vivante, Cynthia Morris

I’m Cynthia Morris. I love getting people
unstuck so they can be more authentic in their lives and creativity
.

A writer since 1994, I have put my pen to many genres: short story, essay, roundup articles for newspapers, non-fiction books, how-to articles and blogs, course curricula, and even a Paris historical novel.

I am also a watercolor artist and have created many bodies of work including illustrating a marketing book for artists.

One of my clients called me the Swiss Army Knife of writer’s coaches because of the range of experience I bring.

I’m a certified coach, working with clients and students as a coach/teacher since 1999. Lots of people offer writing workshops, but very few have over 20 years experience facilitating the writing process for students and clients.

I've traveled to Paris nearly every year since 2000, and I have led 10 creativity and writing workshops there. I know the city well and am always discovering more.

What does this mean for you?

I hold space for your daring creative adventures. I live at my creative edge and know how to help others dare creatively, too. I love sharing my favorite Paris spots and resources.

"Cynthia Morris is a gentle coach who allows you to explore creative processes in a supportive environment. The combination of Cynthia's coaching, supportive group energy, and exploring the neighborhoods and sights of Paris is something every writer should experience."

No more feeling like your writing just skims the surface. In Paris, you will learn to let your heart and soul meet your mind for truly authentic writing.

Write in ways that satisfy and enliven you. This adventurous writing workshop gives you real-life training on how to bring all of you to the page.

Permission to be real on the page
Invitations to safely bring out your emotions
Care for and respect of your vulnerability and courage
Befriend the inner critic
Write with a group of open-minded and open-hearted people.

"I loved the entire experience. The workshop was very transformative for me. Meeting and hanging out with like-minded creatives who are doing their creative thing was very cool.

I liked that there were different genres and different ways that we wrote coming into the workshop. The workshop helped to open my mind to the many possibilities and challenged me to try new ways of creatively generating new work. I also enjoyed the group writing.

There was just the right amount of group and alone time. The excursions were also perfect for sensory experiences. I loved the tea and pastries. The water is where I love to be so the river cruise allowed me to see some of the tourist places without going to them." - Andrea M

FAQ

How much does the retreat cost? Expand

The retreat fee is $2397.

Reserve your seat here.

What expenses are there outside of the workshop? Expand

Your retreat fee is covered. Other items such as any refreshments when we are together as a group are covered. We have an opening gathering and a final dinner and those costs are covered.

You are responsible for: flights, lodging, lunches, dinners, souvenirs, museum entry fees, transport to and from the airport, taxi or Uber rides, and solo cafe visits. There are plenty of takeaway spots and grocery stores near the hotel if you want to economize on restaurant meals.

I generally allow for $100 or more per day for expenses. I try to estimate high because I never know when I will want to treat myself to a special meal or buy a gift or souvenir.

If it were moi, I would plan to spend up to $1,000 while in Paris. That sounds like a lot, but again, when I am in Paris, I like to pamper myself. The last thing I want is to not get an ice cream or special drink because I am economizing. What I do is start saving well in advance. I limit my spending at home so I have more to splurge with when traveling.

You know yourself, your budget and your spending patterns. How much you spend outside of the workshop is up to you.

Is this only for writers? Expand

You don't have to be a writer per se but you should be prepared to write during our time together. You should want to write. But you don't have to already have written. As mentioned above, this is not a way to come to Paris just for fun. It's a writing retreat for those who want to write.

Do I need to have an existing project? Expand

Definitely not. If you have a project you want to work on while in Paris, that's great. But our workshops will focus on being courageous, open-hearted and vulnerable. So a project is not necessary.

Will my writing be critiqued? Expand

This is not a critique group; we will seek to take risks and be bold in our writing. We will not be critiquing but we will learn how to give encouraging remarks that help us each grow as writers.

I've never traveled alone. Is this for me? Expand

This is your chance to expand your horizons and your comfort zone! You will be responsible for your travel to and from Paris. While I offer plenty of guidance on getting around and how to navigate Paris in my customized Paris guide, you will be responsible for yourself outside our workshop and excursions.

You will perhaps explore on your own or join forces with the other workshop participants to wow it up in Paris.

Is there a lot of walking involved? Expand

This is not a tour where we are on the move together all the time. So you should have plenty of opportunities to take care of yourself.

That said, there will be times when we are together on excursions. You are always welcome to take a taxi or rideshare as needed. In general, the more fit and healthy you are, the more ease and joy you experience while encountering new environs.

We count on our participants to know their limits and to take care of their needs at all times.

I don't speak French. Will I be able to communicate with the locals? Expand

Most French people you’ll encounter speak English quite well. If you love playing with languages like I do, I recommend signing up for the French word of the day and learning some basic phrases.

Don’t get too twisted up about the language; you should have no problem speaking English wherever you go in Paris.

How much time is on our own? Expand

Most mornings, we will have workshop sessions until 12:30. We will have some optional evening activities. Plan on having your dinners on your own (or with the other participants) and some time in the afternoons.

On our last day, you will have most of the day free until late afternoon. Shopping, anyone?

Is Paris safe? Expand

I personally feel safe in the world, and my instincts tell me when I am in an unsafe environment. I count on you to trust yourself.

In my experience, Paris is safe. I will give tips about what to watch out for and how to keep yourself safe.

Do you offer refunds? Expand

Your retreat fee is non-refundable. However, if you are unable to attend, you can transfer your registration to someone else. If you cannot find a replacement, your retreat fee will be forfeited.

How do I pay? Expand

Registration is in two parts. First:

Book your spot here.

You will receive an email with instructions on how to pay with a credit card online. You are welcome to send a check if you prefer. Just let me know.

What if I still have questions? Expand

I’m happy to answer. Please contact me.
