Have you ever had a spiritual awakening that opened your eyes to a new or deeper creative practice?
My friend Kim Roberts did. Her long-time yoga practice opened her eyes to the deeper dimensions of life, eventually leading her to Paris, where she started painting.
Kim is multifaceted, sharing her gifts as a yoga practitioner and instructor, psychotherapist, coach, artist, and writer with the world.
She joins me on Stumbling Toward Genius today to share how her many daily practices feed into one another, as well as:
- Her art-making process and how she opens herself up to express what’s inside
- From Paris to the San Luis Valley, how place inspires her work
- The one thing that holds her back and how she is facing her fears
Plus, we talk about her book, Toward a Secret Sky: Creating Your Own Modern Pilgrimage, and she shares a glimpse into her new online program that offers women the practical tools to navigate any life transition with confidence, courage, and grace.
Did you enjoy hearing about Kim’s artist origin story in Paris? I really believe many people find their creativity in Paris.
My creative life continues to be sculpted by this amazing city and I would love to share that with you.

Cynthia – This was one of your best podcasts. I just got back from a trip to Ireland with extended family. It was a good trip but I struggled to get the sense of pilgrimage, life changing vibes that would point me in my next direction that I usually seek and find when I travel. I love the concept of pilgrimage and read lots of books about walking around Europe, but realistically, even after all my years of walking to stay in shape for my travels, I’m not much of a walker. A ‘real’ pilgrimage is probably not in my future. But Kim Roberts, your guest, has given me ideas to think about how to build a pilgrimage, a spiritual journey, from my home. Thanks so much!
hi Bobbi, I’m so glad this was helpful in some way. Pilgrimage is a state of mind as far as I ‘m concerned,…and something we embark on every. darn. day. May your guiding light burn bright! warmly, Kim
Thank you for responding to my comment! I went down the rabbit hole on your blog. I love the way you write. Please continue, at least with your blog. And I just bought your book! I look forward to creating my own little Camino or walking the coast of England on my treadmill and in a journal. With family in Spain and a daughter who would like to an English walk with me, they might happen.
Thanks so much for your kind words Bobbi! I will continue to write –i don’t think I have a choice at this point! I hope you enjoy the book – please feel free to reach out if I can support you and wish you all the best on your journey. xo Kim
Hi Bobbi!
I love that this was such a good conversation for you. Kim and I could have talked for hours on these subjects!
I wonder what made it a struggle to connect with your vibes…maybe being with family? I know when I travel alone, it’s easier to follow the flow than group mind.
I love Kim’s comment that everyday life is a pilgrimage, that it is a state of mind. So lovely!
Hey girl! How far back do we go? Over a decade? I think I did get something from the trip. I immediately changed the pictures and decorations on my home office walls. Once again I had outgrown what they said about me. But I think being stuck at home for over 2 years put a damper on my travel urges. I was nervous about traveling. I wasn’t plugged in. I hadn’t researched where I wanted to go much though we did see the Book of Kells and I went to a yarn shop for some Irish sock yarn, my choices. Coming back to brown suburban LA after a very green mostly rural Ireland makes me wonder who was the girl bonding with sheep and who is the one who now has to deal with drought and water rationing. But I think I’m further on the path to an answer than I was when I left. Much love! I still want to have an in-person coffee with you some day!
