Your Writing Coach

Enjoy the power of having a writing coach on your team

There’s a certain point in your writing life when you don’t need more information about how to write. You’ve taken the classes, you’ve learned the basics, and now you need to put your brilliant idea to paper.

You also know that if you don’t write, you’re not going to be happy. You must write your memoir, that business book or that novel. You’re meant to write this and you’re determined to do it this year.

Here’s the secret you don’t want anyone to know, and perhaps you can’t even admit to yourself:

You’re scared to death of actually doing your project. You’re successful in every other area of your life and don’t want to face how difficult it feels to work on your project.

So you use the best fake excuse that most of us can legitimately claim: you’re too busy. You don’t have time to write your book.

It’s normal to be scared. I have felt fear throughout the process of writing my two books and five e-books. But all along the way I got help, and that allowed me to complete my creative projects.

While I haven’t found a way to eliminate fears, I have developed strategies to help my clients produce work despite them. I can help you enjoy your writing process so you complete the projects you take on.

How can I help you make writing easier?

Over ten years as a coach for writers and fifteen years as a writer myself, I’ve discovered that what works is a writing practice designed for your unique needs and goals.

I’ve written a basic blueprint for crafting your writing practice in my book Create Your Writer’s Life: A Guide to Writing with Joy and Ease. Your Writing Coach package adds three vital pieces to completing projects:

  • an honest, enthusiastic sounding board
  • resources for your specific project
  • accountability to get things done, and enjoy the process.

I respect the power of commitment and ongoing support so I’m offering a year-long coaching package for writers who are ready to make satisfying progress on their writing projects.

This is not a coaching group. This is one-one coaching. From January to December, we’ll develop a strategic plan for writing that you can fit into your already busy life.

The power of this commitment is that it’s designed for your needs and goals. Writing classes and books are useful to develop your writing craft and gain knowledge of the market; a coach helps you actually bring your ideas into form more quickly and easily.

I will help you:

  • Identify your intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for doing your project – helps you stay focused
  • Develop a writing schedule that works for you – you can fit the writing in with the rest of life
  • Stay on track when inner and outer obstacles threaten to derail you stay focused despite life’s challenges
  • Expand and develop your ideas – honest feedback that keeps you aligned with your project’s purpose
  • Share resources and introduce you to colleagues who can help you saves you time and effort.

This package isn’t for everyone, and I will only work with a few clients this way. Before you contact me about getting started, check to see if you meet these three criteria. You’re:

Ready – You know what you want to write even if you don’t know how.

Willing – You’re going to encounter obstacles, but with my help you’re willing to work through them to get to the results you want.

Able – You haven’t buried yourself under so many other obligations that you can’t make time needed to produce writing.

In the course of a year innumerable obstacles can pull you away from your project. Together we’ll help you adjust for circumstances and stay on track with your project.

At the end of the year, we’ll celebrate your progress and completion. We’ll chart a path for next steps for you and your work.

Why a year?

A year can seem like a long time, but in reality, it takes time to produce lasting results.

My most successful clients – the ones who complete projects – are the ones who stick with it (and me) for the long haul. Writing a book or publishing a successful blog takes longer than three months.

With the Your Writing Coach package, you have me on your team for the whole year, with a significant discount for the commitment.

My successful clients

I can only say so much about how valuable coaching can be. Here’s what a few of my clients say about how hiring me as their writing coach helped them exceed their goals:

"Cynthia, I didn't listen to you when you encouraged me to think of my book as a good source of income. I was hell-bent on seeing it as a marketing tool.

"Well, it's been both. Sales of my book now make up 33% of my income. And the first two years we worked together, my income increased 40% each year!

"The book has been an entree into amazing speaking opportunities like three keynote addresses and ten major workshops (in 12 states) since it was released.

"Your coaching is invaluable to any author who has a book in her. I'm self-motivated, but my success would have taken a lot longer without you on my team. Thank you!"

Alyson B. Stanfield Art Marketing Consultant, Author of I'd Rather Be in the Studio! The Artist's No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion, Golden, Colorado

Monica Parker worked with me to help her develop her business as a career coach for lawyers. From that came her first book and a deal for a second book.

“With Cynthia’s help, I left the practice of law, started my own venture, and now have two book deals.  Who can’t use a partner like that?!”

Monica R. Parker, founder, LeavingTheLaw.com, and author of Getting Hit by a Bus Isn’t the Answer: A Road Map for Finding Meaningful Work Outside of the Law (Sourcebooks, 2008) Atlanta, Georgia

Katy Piotrowski wanted to bring her career expertise to a wider audience. It was clear she had to write a book but needed help staying on track. Now her five-book Career Coward series reaches hundreds more people who are looking for better work.

“I have published my Career Coward series, and I owe so much of it to Cynthia. I was having trouble staying accountable to myself for putting together a book proposal. Working with Cynthia, I gained accountability, great ideas, and the confidence to keep moving forward.

"I am so pleased with how Cynthia helped me achieve my goals. Thank you, Cynthia!”

Katy Piotrowski, M. Ed. Owner, JobWorks and Author, The Career Coward’s series, Fort Collins, Colorado
