Claim Your Authority

Finally. Clarity about your book’s purpose and a solid plan for how to write it.

Claim Your Authority retreat at the Sylvia Beach hotel, July 10 – 12, 2012.

You know you have a book in you. You even feel the time is ripe to get it out there. You’re going to do it!

The only problem is you don’t know what the book’s really about. You have a cluster of ideas and aren’t sure how to pull them together. You’re unwilling to commit to one central idea because all the other ideas are compelling, too.

You’re busy enough with the rest of your life, so this uncertainty makes it easy to push ‘write book’ to the bottom of the list. “Write book’ seems so overwhelming.

Our big visions for our creative work are always accompanied by our little fears. Those pesky fears that assure us our ideas have already been done. That we don’t know enough or have enough material to write a book.

Stopping pushing ‘write book’ to the bottom of the list. Claim your authority.

Be empowered by your topic, emboldened by your plans, and energized to write until you’ve finished your book.

What authority means

Drafting the novel during a mountain writing retreat

There’s never been more advice on how to write. Too much, even. The abundance of writing advice can sometimes add to your confusion, reducing your sense of what’s right for you.

Set aside advice and claim your own authority. We already have plenty of ‘shoulds’. Now is the time to access your own wisdom and authority.

Having authority means:

  • being an author – putting your ideas on paper so your work can reach a wider audience
  • not looking outside yourself for decisions – you know what to put in the book
  • putting your expertise into words – how you say something is as important as what you’re saying
  • earning more income and prestige
  • leaving a mark – this is your legacy work, the impact that will reach beyond you.

Pause here. Close your eyes and imagine the people you want to reach. Imagine them receiving your message. See them reading your book and becoming better for it.

Relish that image. Relish how it fills both you and your readers. That’s authority.

Join us to Claim Your Authority

These days it’s easy enough to publish a book. There are plenty of ways to get your message out to the world.

But first you have to write it. And I can help you do that – in your own way. I’ll help you:

  • Get clear on the subject of your book or blog
  • Find the angle of your unique message
  • Connect to the heart of your message so excuses no longer have a place
  • See how several of your ideas might be combined into one
  • Choose a working title to help you stay on track
  • Draft a plan to start writing now – and keep writing until it’s finished.

I’ve been coaching people to complete their books since 1999. My ‘special sauce’ involves helping you find the right way that works for you to get your stories out.

Together, we’ll spark the conversations you need to have so you can do the writing that’s waiting to come out.

Ways to Claim Your Authority

In 2012, I’ll be writing regularly about how to Claim Your Authority on the Original Impulse blog. Because it’s my mission to help as many women claim their authority as possible, I’ve developed several additional ways to access this material.
